The National Institute for Health and Care Excellence (NICE) exists to help improve the quality, sustainability and productivity of health and social care in England.  We have an international reputation for our approach to producing guidance and information on effective practice that supports better decisions and helps the health and care system to prioritise its investment. We take account of value for money in developing our guidance, by recognising that new forms of practice need to demonstrate the benefits they bring against what they displace, and by recommending better targeting of interventions of limited value and opportunities for disinvesting from ineffective interventions. Our guidance and information are evidence-based and often require challenging decisions made under public and media scrutiny.

Our objectives support the wider system priorities, including the response to the COVID-19 pandemic, managing the risks and opportunities of EU Exit, and supporting the ambitions of the life sciences industrial strategy.  We operate within - and we influence - a system consistently adapting to technological innovation, and we support the UK’s ambition to enhance its position as a global life sciences destination.

This is a pivotal time for NICE as we reshape our strategy to be fit for the opportunities and challenges ahead. The organisation is undergoing a significant change under our new Chair and new Chief Executive, and with new executive directors. Reporting to our Executive Director of Finance, Strategy & Transformation, and working with experienced senior colleagues, you will influence the future success of NICE and ensure it remains at the forefront of its field in the UK and overseas.

Deputising for the Director and supporting her in developing and delivering on strategic financial priorities, you will play a central role as the directorate enhances its business enabling and forward-thinking capabilities. Whilst this role has a significant internal remit - overseeing commercial, contract management and procurement, aligning resources with priorities, and ensuring legal compliance at the best value for the organisation - you will also support the operational units focussed on maximising and generating income opportunities here and abroad. Working closely with financial management colleagues, this role’s success will be measured by the impact it has on strategic objectives in our 5 year strategy.

A qualified chartered accountant, you will bring experience of providing strategic financial advice to influence board level decisions.  You will be an energetic and innovative financial thinker, in the context of the social, political, and economic influences on the health and care system and across other Arm’s Length Bodies.  Your ability to bring drive and enthusiasm to this senior role will be what sets you apart from others and inspires confidence both internally and externally.
